    Greetings and thank you for your instruction they're very good. My one question is do you release your wrist through impact or do you keep it in the same position at the top of the backswing and using your body through the swing. Thanks again

    i got here because ive been trying to find a swing for the past 6 years that doesnt hurt my lower back. Ive literally tried everything! So i got playing around with a bent knee at impact, or even a timed "dip". It has immediately helped my low back pain. Also i am considered a "long hitter" and I can say that even not posting up on my lead knee and crunching down to the ball like so many advocate, my distance is the same or maybe better. One thing I am also combining with this bent lead knee is single plane. Actually Im doing a single plane, bent lead at impact, and 3/4 whippy/quick hand swing. Great results so far.

      @@1atomicgolf yes exactly. here's how i try to explain it to my friends: the most challenging part of golf for the human anatomy is maintaining an in-to-out trajectory on the down swing. it goes against all of our human intuition because the object is in front of us like we're chopping wood overhand. in channel lock, you've moved the object to the left side of our vision and stance, which enables the mind to adopt the intuitive motion of chopping down a tree, which supports the golf swing. namely, we keep our hips and shoulders closed, thus forcing the in-to-out trajectory till impact. we're going underneath our shrouded/closed left shoulder, as opposed to timing the shoulders to be perfectly square at impact. one thing you have to get right though is the pivot. if your pelvis slides to the trail side then anything can happen. the way i have to imagine it is that my lead knee, trail hip, and spine, are twisting together clockwise into a rope. then, after the transition pulls the hands back to their starting position, you can uncoil the rope through the shot. meanwhile, the shrouded lead shoulder is like a gate that you're holding up for the entire swing so the rope can coil and uncoil underneath it.

  • @perennialistperspective

    hey JH! i totally understand what you mean. i'm full into channel lock now and I practice at a very busy range and i get a lot of confused looks. but nobody has offered free advice yet, perhaps because they see how well ive been hitting it. i see all the new players struggling so bad, even the ones who were just taking lessons from the pros right next to me, and i think to myself "if only they could open their mind to channel lock, they'd pick up golf so much faster and enjoy it so much more". it's just an easier swing to understand and master. and it feels more intuitive if you just give it a chance. im 39 and hitting longer than i ever have, just because the of the purity of my shots.

      Whats the point of promoting a players swing processes/capabilities .. if the player hasnt got some background 'Stories' of his swing's capability etc.. what would incline anyone to try the swing if it hasnt got some testimonial of capability. Every 'Story Book.. has 'Stories' in them..why would you read any Story Book that didnt have 'Stories' in it.. pretty pointless I would think. I once did a survey of 100 Golfers over a month, I asked them if they had ever heard of Count Yogi.. 98 said they hadn't....I think that survey said all that needs to be said relative to 'Yogi Stories'. Wouldn’t this be a way to categorise swing actions. Non rotation vs rotation. Are there any modern golfers that use square to square

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf Місяць тому

      I think the rotation aspect of the Golf Swing should be a resultant of the torque motion of the arm swing, that being the clubhead momentum radially creates the body rotation follow on in the backswing. I certainly think of my hands/arms/clubhead moving motion as my main intention, and my body rotation just becomes a resultant of that process. Again I think Freddy Couples exhibits the most effect of the hands/arms/clubhead being put into motion deliberately and his body rotation just 'following' that initiation of body componentry sequencing. For me personally I dont think of 'Body Rotation' at all.. its all hands/arms/clubhead initiation for me. Cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf

      I think Freddy Coup[les has the mechanics ingredients of the Fold and Hammer mechanics, if you watch him he seems to be 'picking the club Up' in his backswing.. its not the traditional 'extension type backswing. To me he looks like he is very much Folding his hands/wrists/arms in the backswing. . Cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf Місяць тому

      I think the Quintesential 'Fold and Hammer' exponent back in the day was .. Harry Vardon.. Harry totoally collapsed his lead arm and folded his arms at the elbows. Harry was renowned for his driving accuracy and power in his era,there arent a lot of pictures of Harry in stop frame going back in his swing and at the top of his swing to see how much he just picked the club up in his backswing and completely bent his left elbow at the top of the swing. This video shows Harry towards the end of it, its not perfectly front on but you can see how much he bent his left arm at the elbow which is the indicator of a 'Lifting and Folding' action . ua-cam.com/video/ivo0n49U3aI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=CinePost Cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf Місяць тому

      Hi Greg, "intention' I think is the mother of 'Reflex' .. that being I think you have to apply significant intention in a swing process at one time in order for the action to become sufficiently ingrained to make it a Reflex action . I can tell you I have never been able to ingrain a specific action without significant repetitive intentional processing of the specific action I want to achieve in my golf swing. If the brain doesnt have an embedded specific thought process it simply will not repeat that process consitently and automatically, bodily gross motor movement for any process of body movement is a learned repetive input process. You just have to give the brain a program , before it can learn a program and apply it..least thats what I have always had to do, and when talking with some of the great players over the years they have supported that requirement. Cheers JH

    Good job but changed my address position like yours with my left hand and it seems like a twirl it easier it sure takes a long time to twirl it but when you have a twirled he just got a thing to let it go that's the feeling I get what do you think

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf Місяць тому

      Hi Greg, You will get that 'feeling' of extra time requirement for the actual Twirling process.. when you are doing it correctly. The process does take time to correctly apply it, and when you do get that rolling up effect of the twirling process because of the time it takes you invariably will feel that the rolled up package you have created has nothing else to do but just 'Unroll' in the downswing.. which will feel like you are just ..'letting it go' in the downswing. The reality is the process just has to 'unroll' itself from the rolledup/twirled.. position you have created in the backswing.. but generally once you have twirled the clubhead correctly in the backswing the 'untwirling' will just happen automatically in the downswing. Cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf Місяць тому

      The basic rearwards ball positioning at address/impact of Channel Lock promotes a more into out attack path at impact which which from a swing geometry aspect shallows out the attack plane of the swing at impact, hence the impact will be a lot more level than steepish which will preclude deepish divots. As well the rearwards ball position ...which promotes closed shoulders at impact.. will eliminate hitting up on the ball and potential topped shots etc.. Cheers JH

    JH-- 🎉 in advance-this swing has done wonders to my ball striking - any suggestions on how to lower my ball height?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf Місяць тому

      Hi George , Glad the swing is working OK for you.. Lower the ball flight.. If I want to hit a Lower ball flight shot.. I exaggerate my direction attack into the ball at impact. That being I just try to exaggerate my path attack direction into the ball at impact .. that being I keep my shoulders closed coming into .. and at impact.. the feeling is I am trying to hit the ball out to the right of the target ( right handed Golfer of Course) ... by doing that the attack angle of the club into impact is shallower and the spin of the shot is reduced accordingly. Now by firing the clubhead out across the targetline at impact you need to have the clubface closed up at impact so as to put drawspin on the ball.. clearly you need the shot to draw back to the target because the ball will be starting out to the right because of the attack path of the clubface at impact. The other thing I do for a lower ball flight is just move the ball back at address.. which makes it easier to produce an in to out path attack at impact .. if the ball is to far forward at address/impact you will have trouble keeping your shoulders closed at impact. Actually your high ball flight could actually be that you are just generally playing the ball to far forward at address/impact.. if I want to hit a High shot normally I just move the ball further forward at addres .. that ensures I will have more of an up hit on the ball at impact and more loft on the clubface. Just try moving the ball back in your stance first and try that.. as well concentrate on keeping your lead shoulder closed at impact and see what that does to your ball flight.. but bremember closed shoulders at impact will get the ball ' starting' to the right initially.. so you need to get the clubface closed up a bit at address to compensate for that.. because the shot will be a draw shot with that clubface closure and path attack at impact.. and draw shots generally are just lower ball flight shots. Cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf 2 місяці тому

      Hi George, If you ball flight is a 'Slice' type flight.. that means the clubhead/face is tracking 'out to in' at impact..and the clubface is 'open' at impact. In order to hit a draw shape ball flight the clubhead/face must be tracking 'in to out' at impact with a slightly 'closed' clubface. In order to get the clubface tracking 'in to out' at impact the lead shoulder needs to be slightly closed at impact... which it cant be if its not high at impact. To get that to happen you need to get the lead shoulder moving upwards at impact.. and be slightly closed as well. With your slice type ball flight you are probably having your lead shoulder to flat and moving down and left at impact.. maybe not down much as such.. but certainly not 'upwards' and closed as it needs to be to get the cluheadhead/face tracking in to out at impact. Just try to get the lead shoulder moving 'upwards' coming into impact and keep it closed as well. ..just get in front of a mirror and facing down the line and watch the point of your lead shoulder in the downswing.. do what you have to do to get the point of the lead shoulder going 'upwards' coming into impact.. its virtually impossible to gewt the clubhead tracking 'out to in' at impact with a high lead shoulder. A good drill to achieve a high lead shoulder and it being closed at impact.. is just to think of firing the clubhead out to the right of the targetline at impact ( right handed golfer).. just exaggerate firing the clubhead across and out to the right at impact... you cant do that with a flat shoulder plane and low lead shoulder at impact. Try that stuff.. it will get the cluhead tracking in to out at impact.. which is what you need to eliminate the 'across the line out to in' impact position. which causes the cutshot ball flight.. pull/slice type shot. Cheers JH

    George Low used his wrist to putt. Modern putting teachers say the wristy putt worked great because the greens were so slow and not as smooth as now but that's a fallacy. I don't use my arms hardly at all. I use a baseball grip with the thumbs on top. I use a TaylorMade Spider putter with the face balance S shaped shaft and I always hit the ball straight. I am normally an average putter hardly ever making birdie putts but when I put with my wrist I make anywhere from 1 to 4 putts a round for birdie. You must trust it. That is the biggest thing. You have to hit it straight and this is how you do it. Now on longer lag putts I sometimes do an arm stroke with the "oldman" grip with index fingers down each side of the shaft. This works on keeping the putt online when it's a long putt. I can also do it with the wrist.

      No question the greens back in the day were not as good as they are today.. however I personally found that using Low's putting mechanics.. and a narrow sole blade type putter .. the ball roll on todays quality greens was superior to that which I can get with any other putting mechanics currently promoted by putting gurus... I guess the way to judge any type of swing or putting technique as to its superiority over something else.. is to just try it for yourself .. you don't lose any shots on the practice green when trying something out to see if its better than what you currently are using. cheers JH

    Hiya JH been using CL hitting some great drivers with it now and now quite good of the fairways with my woods as my clubs go from 5 wood to 13 wood with CL i have trouble getting out of the rough do i need to do anything different I tried opening the face but doesn't seem to work. My swing is not that fast i hit my driver about 190 and 5 wood 160 as my swing is slow i think i can't hit out of the rough very well. Is there anything you can tell me to maybe increase my swing speed cheers Steve

      Hi Steve, You just have to move the ball forward in your stance with shots from the rough..CL creates a very shallow attack plane into the ball at impact because of the trail foot ball positioning.. and as result the clubface gets at ground level early in the move to impact.. which because grass in the rough is longer than fairway height grass the clubface will pick up that longer grass before impact. You just have to make that adjustment with the CL swing for shots out of the rough... even though the ball is further up in the stance at impact when you move the ball up.. so long as you concentrate on keeping the lead shoulder closed at impact the ball will still start a bit right of the targetline as it does with the normal CL swing. Shots from the rough just require a steeper attack angle into the ball at impact to eliminate catching grass before impact....with CL its no different.. we just have to steepen the attack angle at impact.. and because a shot from the rough is not a std shot.. we normally with any type of swing should be steepening the attack angle for impact. Cheers JH

      Hi Pat, I had the good fortune to play a few Pro Ams with Peter Thompson.. and that high lead shoulder was so obvious when you saw him in the flesh setting up to hit shots. what a player Peter was. and what a gentleman. Cheers JH

    IMO and at 80+ I’ve seen it all and played with some of the best players in the game over the last 50 years or so… your CL has brought together elements of the Martin Ayres “ twirl” & George Knudson extreme inside takeaway… well done… is the Golf Swing of the Future 👏👏👏

      Hi Pat, You having been a good player.. and clearly having a good swing process yourself..its good to hear you endorse CL as an alternative swing process . Cheers JH PS Knudsen did have a very pronounced inside takeaway.. Moe Norman told me that was something he wanted to do in his own swing but just couldn't do it. Cheers JH

    Martin , I was watching the PGA Wells Fargo Championship today. All the golfers I watched , Right from the get go , the handle is moving towards the target ? I thought maybe I am missing something , but in slow motion shots and much slower shorter shots the handle is moving towards the target . If the left hand is in the cupped position , it should be moving away from the target . Is it that the left stays cupped but the handle will go toward the target ? I seen where you showed it in slow motion and the action did have the handled going away from the target . That movement was without any body movement . When the hands are set with the left wrist cupped the right flat at address , what is the driving force that moves the club into action. Left upper arm , ankles , knees , hips . Right hip going back . If you saying the movement has the handle going away from the target for a very short distance because it's cupped but then handle goes towards the target then I get it . I am attempting to keep the handle going towards the target and I just don't get the all important feel of the continuous swinging the club . I see a lot of some what fat shots . Hopefully Martin , you can give me clarity on this . Much appreciated . Have a blessed Friday .

    I'm assuming these videos were before you hooked up with Martin? What are the differences between these swings and post-Martin swing?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf 3 місяці тому

      This swing was developed quite a few years ago.. the swing really has nothing in it that is in the Martin Ayers swing process. To explain the differences between Martin's swing and the Davinci code swing really needs a video to really show the differences.. I might do a video when I get back on the practice tee again. I haven't switched to the Martin Ayes swing.. I just had Martin give people a rundown on his swing process.. which is what my channel is really about.. .. anything new I'm always interested in it. Cheers JH

      @@1atomicgolf Did you find Martin's swing more difficult to master?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf 3 місяці тому

      Martins swing is certainly more difficult to assimilate to because its simply so different from any type of traditional golf swing mechanics teachings etc. the swing is definitely for the committed swing enthusiast ... but if you put the effort into learning the critical nuances of the swing you will achieve a level of ball striking quality you probably have never experienced before... you only have to see Martins quality of strike and ball flight to know the swing has something that's worth exploring. Cheers JH

    Closest swing is Freddy Couples... crushes 300 yard drives.. effortlessly.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf 3 місяці тому

      Count Yogi could certainly hit effortless 300 yard drives.. he actually hit lots of drives over 350 yards.. Freddy probably has the most effortless swing ever in World Golf.. he still hits the ball miles today on the senior tour. .. his swing doesn't look any different today .. and he is is 64 years old. Cheers JH
